Karla does not have a data protection officer (DPO), and is not required to. If you have questions about how we process your data, you are always welcome to write.
Karla remembers your language, area, your baby's age and name, your interests, what you have saved and whether you have seen the introduction. This is kept in your browser's local storage on your own phone or computer and is only used to make Karla work, so it does not require consent. If you are logged in, it is also stored on your account (see the next section).
You can delete it all under Profile → Delete data on this device.
We store your email, an encrypted password, your first name if you give it, your baby's name and age, your city and area, your interests and what you have saved, so your things follow you across devices and we can show what suits you (GDPR art. 6(1)(b)).
If you sign up for a workshop under a piece of advice, we store this on your account, together with whether you answered yes or maybe, so we can let you know when there is a workshop nearby (art. 6(1)(b)).
We keep the information as long as you have an account. Under Profile → Delete my account you delete the account and everything linked to it, including the workshop list, immediately.
Your baby's name and age are information about a child. Giving them is always optional, they are given by you as a parent, and we only use them to show advice and activities that suit your child. The name is only used to make Karla more personal, for example "How old is Ida?".
When you create an account, you can opt in to news and tips from Karla. We only send them with your active consent (art. 6(1)(a)), and your email is confirmed before the account is created. You can unsubscribe at any time.
We use your email for the newsletter for as long as you are subscribed. If we have not sent you a newsletter for a year, your consent lapses. After you unsubscribe, we keep documentation of your earlier consent for 2 years, as recommended by the Danish Consumer Ombudsman.
We count visits, pages, device type and country with Vercel Web Analytics, without cookies and without being able to recognise you from day to day.
We also record anonymous events, for example that a piece of advice was opened, an activity was saved, a sign-up link was used, or that you answered "Was this helpful?" or "Is this information right?" for a café. Events contain no name, email or user ID, but may include your baby's age group and area so we can see what is needed. This is our legitimate interest in improving Karla (art. 6(1)(f)). Events are deleted automatically after 13 months.
If you answer questions such as "What are you going through?" or "Missing anything nearby?", we store the text anonymously and delete it automatically after 13 months. Please don't write names or other personal details in these fields.
If you write to kontakt@hejkarla.dk, we process the information you give us, typically your name, your email and what you write, so we can reply (art. 6(1)(f)). We delete the email when your enquiry is closed, unless there is a particular reason to keep it longer.
We use a few suppliers who process data on our behalf (data processors):
They may only use the data on our instructions, and we have agreements with them to protect it. If data is transferred to countries outside the EU/EEA, such as the US, this follows EU rules, such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or the EU standard contractual clauses. Fonts are served from our own server, not from Google.
We do not share your information with others. We tailor the content to your baby's age, your area and your interests, but we make no automated decisions about you.
Passwords are stored encrypted, and the database has access rules so each user can only see their own information. Only the data controller has access to the overviews of users and answers.
Activities in Karla link to the organisers' own websites, such as libraries and churches. Their privacy policies apply there.
You have a number of rights under the General Data Protection Regulation. To use them, write to kontakt@hejkarla.dk and we will reply within a month.
If you are unhappy with how we process your information, you can complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency at datatilsynet.dk.
If we change this policy, we update the date at the top. We will tell you in Karla about larger changes.
